America My Dreams and Reality Essay As a little boy who grew up in a small town of Dire Dawa, Ethiopia, I had different expectations when it comes to the American lifestyle. Every immigrant has some sort of vision for their new life in America. For me, I wanted to be a famous soccer player or a well know heart surgeon. Everyone knows that something good in life does not come easy, but that did not matter for a naÃÆ' ¯ve ten year old who believed in a happily after. The American Dream   is intangible and it will never be achieved just gives hope to the people who chase it. In Ethiopia, I had nothing to look forward to not just because Ethiopia is one of the poorest countries in the world, but because the people there lost hope to survive and better them. When my family decided to come to America I was going to 9th grade. I passed my minstery high school entrance exam, equivalent to the HSA here, and was ready to embark the new phase of my life. After we were sure of coming to America, I began dreaming about my life here and how awesome it would be. I saw myself with lots of money, cars, houses, and girls just like the rapper or movie stars we get to see on the weekends on my neighbors TV. I thought when we get here my rich   uncle will buy us a house and my mom will get a job and me my brother will go to nice private high school. One can only dream, however when reality hits you in the face then you learn a dream does not become reality through magic; it takes sweat, determination and hard work. When it comes to my family reality drowned us, my mom could not find a job for over a year, we had to live in a small one bedroom apartment with my aunt where me and my brother slept on the floor in order to go school in the morning. Life was so suffocating that my mom almost decided to go back to Ethiopia and just give up. Fast track to 2014, my senior year of high school. I have wait for this day since I came here. Even though my dreams of becoming a famous soccer player or a well know heart surgeon has not yet came true I believe the expectations of America I had when I was ten years old motivates me to get up and push myself to the extreme limit till I achieve my dream and become successful. As Harriet Tubman once said, Every great dream begins with a dreamer. Always remember, you have within you the strength, the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world. I want to change the world not just for me but for the friends and family member I left back home, however in order to do that I need the help of people who are derived with fearless ideas and motivated just like I am.

Robert Bolt Over his lengthy, distinguished career, British screenwriter and playwright Robert Bolt has been thrice nominated for Academy Awards and has won twice for Doctor Zhivago (1965) and A Man for All Seasons(1966). Born and raised in Manchester, Bolt served in the British Air Force during WWII and afterward attended Manchester University. Following graduation, Bolt became a teacher of English at the prestigious Millfield private school in Somerset. He remained there between 1950-58. In his spare time, Bolt wrote radio and stage plays, but gained little recognition until he penned the script for his play Flowering Cherry (1957). His third play, A Man for All Seasons opened in 1960; the original production made actor Paul Scofield a star and was a hit on the London and Broadway stage. The publicity surrounding the production attracted the attention of movie producer Sam Spiegel who hired Bolt to completely revise recently exiled writer Michael Wilson's script for David Lean's Lawrence of Ar abia. (1962). The result was an Academy Award nomination for Bolt's script. Throughout the decade, Bolt would specialize in adapting literature to the screen. He would not have an original script produced until Lean directed Bolt's Ryan's Daughter (1970). Unfortunately, the film bombed at the box-office. After that, Bolt spent a while working on his playwrighting career and found success with Vivat! Vivat Regina! (1970). His next script was for the costume drama Lady Caroline Lamb (1972) starring Bolt's wife Sarah Miles, who had also starred in Ryan's Daughter. In 1976, Lean approached Bolt with a new idea for an epic reworking of the story of the Bounty mutiny. With funding by Dino De Laurentiis and Paramount studio, Bolt set to work on the script. Over the next two years, Bolt concentrated most of his energy on the script, creating two versions. Their working titles were The Law Breakers and The Long Arm. He had completed the former script but suffered a massive heart attack on Ap ril 12, 1979 followed by a stroke, and he was unable to finish the second script. The idea of taking a social matter of his time, that was incredibly absurd, and made it even more absurd and gruesome. I found it easy to figure out his sense of satire in the writing, and personally dont understand how others couldnt see what he was really trying to say. How could you take someone completely seriously, especially of Swifts stature, who published a piece about eating babies? Not only is it well written and funny, but also I think it is a great insult to the people who treated the Irish so horribly. To personally see the rise Swift got out of people is amazing. To see classmates get visibly mad over the work, is incredible. It is exactly what Swift wanted to do. I find controversial work very interesting, whether it is literature, music, or television. I love seeing what can be said or done to make people raise an eyebrow. I think Swift definitely had it down to an art, on how to get a rise out of people. Finding the piece interesting and controversial, I dont know if it was a good way to get his point across to the people. Those who found his ideas grotesque and idiotic, thought just that. They didnt see what he was really trying to say, or prove. The thought of eating babies almost seems to overwhelming to some, that they cant tap in to the real meaning of A Modest Proposal.
